Eligibility

Shaan Mentoring is needs-based and primarily open to young women from Sikh and Punjabi backgrounds. However, depending on available resources, applications are also welcome from individuals who meet two or more of the following criteria:

BAME Background (Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic)

For applicants from underrepresented ethnic groups in the legal profession.

Low Income Households

For those from households with limited financial resources.

First Generation University Student

For students who are the first in their family to attend university.

Socioeconomic or Educational Barriers

For individuals who have experienced hardships such as underfunded schools, bereavement, physical or mental health difficulties, or other challenges.

How to Apply

  • 1. Complete the Online Application Form

    Fill out a short application form which will ask for your basic information and contact details.

  • 2. Submit a Personal Statement (500 words max)

    Describe your interest in a legal career, any challenges you’ve faced, and how you believe this mentorship program could help you.

    Explain how you meet the eligibility criteria for either the Sikh and Punjabi mentoring programme or the underrepresented backgrounds programme.

  • 3. Provide Supporting Documents

    Attach your CV: a brief summary of your academic achievements, volunteer work, and/or work experience.

  • 4. Submit Proof of Eligibility (if applicable)

    If you are applying under the low-income criterion, you may be asked to provide documentation, such as a statement of household income or similar.

  • 5. Application Review and Notification

    Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with limited spots awarded each month. You will receive an email notification within a month of your application submission.
